PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device that prevents toner particles present in a nip area between an electric field application roller and a developing roller during stop from being firmly fixed to one of the rollers. SOLUTION: The developing device includes: a developing roller 20Y by which a latent image formed on an image carrier 10Y is developed with liquid developer; and an electric field application roller 22Y which applies an electric field in contact with the developing roller 20Y. When the developing roller 20Y and electric field application roller 22Y are stopped, the developing device is operated in a sequence taking place such that a liquid developer stays in the nip between the developing roller 20Y and the electric field application roller 22Y. Additionally, a base resin as the material of the surface of the developing roller 20Y and that of the electric field application roller 22Y use the same materials. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
