PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling storage, including a freezing room capable of preserving ordinary frozen food and freezing and preserving the stored hot food such as cooked rice to meet the demand that the freezing room in a refrigerator not only store the frozen food but also freezes and preserves the cooked rice having several tens of centigrade temperature and the other hot food to be stored, so that such food is to be defrosted and eaten later on. SOLUTION: In this cooling storage, the freezing room to be cooled to a predetermined freezing temperature by the operation of a motor-driven compressor for compressing a refrigerant is partitioned by a heat insulating partition, and normally operated in a cooling operation mode. The freezing room can be used in the hot food freezing state for storing hot food such as boiled rice and freezing and preserving the same, and in the ordinary freezing state in which the hot food is not stored. This cooling storage includes a non-contact sensor for detecting the temperature of hot food when the hot food is put in the freezing room in non-contact state, wherein according to the temperature detection of the non-contact sensor, the cooling storage is switched from the ordinary cooling operation mode to a hot food freezing operation mode of controlling the operation of the motor-driven compressor to limit the rising width of temperature (the average temperature) of the freezing room to a predetermined temperature range.
