<p>An apparatus and a method for an MBS(Multicast and Broadcast Service) in a BWA(Broadband Wireless Access) communication system are provided to prevent a new mobile terminal's access from being rejected due to mobile terminals using an MBS only by executing connection admission control on the basis of the number of mobile terminals using a unicast service. If a mobile terminal is turned on, the mobile terminal transits to an awake mode(303) after establishing a radio section connection with a base station. Then, in the case of trying to use an MBS, the mobile terminal requests an MBS controller to transmit broadcast contents. In the awake mode, the base station checks whether or not a sleep timer for a unicast connection expires. If the sleep timer expires, the base station judges whether the mobile terminal is receiving the MBS. If so, the base station sets the state of the mobile terminal to a fake awake mode(307). In this case, the mobile terminal can either transit to the fake awake mode or maintain the awake mode. If the MBS ends in the fake awake mode or unicast traffic is generated, the base station sets the state of the mobile terminal to the awake mode again. In case no traffic for the unicast connection is generated during an appointed time even though the MBS ends, the base station sets the state of the mobile terminal to a sleep mode(305).</p> |
