A backlight light source, a lens for a light source, and a backlight assembly having the same are provided to reduce power consumption of a backlight by locally emitting light sources of the backlight, and prevent a light leakage. A transmissive body part(10) includes convex facets(11,13) and concave facets(12,14) formed at outer and inner surface regions and having different curvatures. The curvature of the convex facet of the outer surface region is larger than that of the convex facet of the inner surface region, and the curvature of the convex facet of the inner surface region is smaller than that of the convex facet of the outer surface region. The outer convex facet is provided at a central portion of the outer surface region of the body part and has the first curvature. The outer concave facet has the second curvature and extends from an end of the outer convex facet to edges of the body part. The inner convex facet is provided at a central portion of the inner surface region of the body part and has the third curvature larger than the first curvature. The inner convex facet has the fourth curvature smaller than the second curvature and extends from an end of the inner convex facet to edges of the body part.
