PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a permanent magnet-assisted reluctance rotary electric machine by which efficiency is improved, heat generation of the rotary electric machine is suppressed, and high torque, a high output and reliability are improved in limited space, by reducing a motor loss while securing rotor strength which endures high-speed rotation. SOLUTION: The permanent magnet-assisted reluctance rotary electric machine includes a stator with an armature coil, and a rotor having a projected and recessed portion magnetically in a peripheral direction, wherein in a rotor core, a hole for embedding a permanent magnet is provided on a side face of a magnetic pole generating reluctance torque, along a direction of magnetic flux to generate the reluctance torque passing the magnetic pole, then the permanent magnet is inserted into the hole for embedding the magnetic pole so that the magnetic flux of an armature crossing the magnetic flux may be cancelled, and a leak magnetic field of an end of the magnetic pole is suppressed. In the rotary electric machine, when a width of the permanent magnet is W<SB>pm</SB>[mm], an outer radius of the rotor is R [mm], and the number of the poles is P, a relation of 1.6≤P×W<SB>pm</SB>/R≤1.9 is satisfied.
