PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device composed by reducing early deterioration of an electrode due to influence of light reflected from an auxiliary reflecting mirror; and a projector having a long-life light source by using the light source device. SOLUTION: A current drive device 70 carries out power control to set a period in which a first electrode 15 is a positive electrode shorter than a period in which the first electrode is a negative electrode in relation to a period ratio of a positive electrode period of the first electrode 15 to a negative electrode period thereof. Thereby, damages suffered by both electrodes 15 and 16 are equalized in relation to the damage by the light reflected from the auxiliary reflecting mirror 3, and the damage caused by arc discharge itself.
