PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous wax dispersion fine in particle size, excellent in pH tolerance, salt tolerance and stability, easy to prepare, and flat in emulsified particle stability regardless of ingredients, and a cosmetic with flexibility without spoiling hardness, a wax formulation, and a solid wax composition. SOLUTION: A polyoxyethylene sorbitol fatty acid ester is obtained by reacting a polyoxyethylene sorbitol prepared by adding an average of 20-100 moles of ethylene oxide to one mole of sorbitol with a 20-40C saturated fatty acid by a mole ratio of 1:2.5-1:5.5 to esterify to an acid value of not greater than 10 mgKOH/g. The cosmetic, and a wax dispersing agent for an aqueous system include the ester. The solid wax composition includes the ester, and a wax. The aqueous wax dispersion includes the ester, the wax, and water, and has a wax content of 0.1-60 mass%, and an ester content of 0.01 pts.mass or more to one pts.mass of the wax.
