PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent fuel attachment from being formed in a guide area between a plunger and a pump cylinder in a fuel pump provided with the plunger movable supported in the pump cylinder, especially a high pressure fuel pump of a common rail type fuel injection device. SOLUTION: A cavity 14 is provided in a plunger 12, and the plunger 12 is cooled from an inside thereof via the cavity 14. As a result, fuel attachment is not formed in the guide area between the plunger and the pump cylinder, and the guide area between the plunger and the pump cylinder is maintained to prevent fixation of the plunger.
