<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizer having excellent durability, having polarization characteristics that transmissivity is high, being high in a polarization degree, and having polarization property in which a colorless display is made possible in a black display, and is suitable particularly for a liquid crystal display for a television. <P>SOLUTION: The polarizer is obtained by at least performing a dyeing step, an extending step and a cross-linking step to a polyvinyl alcohol-based film. The polyvinyl alcohol-based film is formed of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having an ethylene unit of 1 to 4 mol% and a vinyl ester unit of 0.5 to 2 mol%, and also having a mean polymerization degree of 2,000 to 2,600 and a saponification degree of 98.0 to 99.5 mol%. In the polarizer, simple substance transmissivity is 40 to 44% and a polarization degree is ≥99.95% upon measurement regarding wavelength light of 380 to 780 nm, and also, orthogonal transmissivity is ≤0.023% upon measurement regarding wavelength light of 440 nm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
