<p>Gasifying biomass comprises compressing the biomass into a gas-impermeable plug in a crammer screw press, feeding the biomass under pressure into a shredder screw press and heating it to 200-250[deg] C by supplying steam and/or oxygen before or after emergence from the press, mixing the biomass with oxygen in a gasification chamber to effect partial combustion at about 900[deg] C, filtering the resulting gas and passing it through a catalytic unit to render residual pollutants harmless. An independent claim is also included for apparatus for gasifying biomass as above.</p> |
