A hologram reproducing apparatus is provided to secure compatibility with hologram recording media, and to enable high density recording by reducing noise from a reproducing signal and regenerating a reproducing signal. A hologram reproducing apparatus(100), capable of reproducing data from a hologram recorded on a recording layer of a hologram recording medium(50) by causing interference between a signal light beam and a reference light beam, comprises a spatial light modulating part for reference light, an image sensor(25), and a control part(60). The spatial light modulating part for reference light displays a reference light pattern to generate the reference light beam. The image sensor having two-dimensionally arrayed pixels receiving diffracted light generated by irradiation of the reference light beam to the hologram recording medium. The control part processes an electrical signal from the image sensor for reproducing the recorded data, by detecting the electrical signal of a predetermined area, which is an electrical signal from the image sensor obtained by irradiating the reference light beam onto a predetermined area of the hologram recording medium, detecting a hologram electrical signal, which is an electrical signal from the image sensor obtained by irradiating the reference light beam onto a hologram area of the hologram recording medium, subtracting the electrical signal of the predetermined area from the hologram electrical signal for reducing noise and obtaining a reproducing signal, and reproducing the recorded data from the reproducing data after noise reduction.
