PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting a crack in a sintered metal having roughness on the surface. SOLUTION: Photographed image data is binarized, an obtained pixel is expanded and what becomes a predetermined size is set as a detection area, and detection and non-detection areas are set. A crack candidate is extracted based on the contrast emphasized by contrast processing on the detection area, and an extracted crack candidate with a length more than a predetermined one is set as a crack. Thus, a crack can be detected if one with a predetermined length determined to be continuous is selected because roughness on the surface doesn't have continuity. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
