PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fragment detection sensor which detects a fragment which is mixed into liquid regardless of the fragment characteristics, metallic/nonmetallic, magnetic/nonmagnetic, and conductive/nonconductive. SOLUTION: The fragment detection sensor detects a fragment which is mixed into liquid, and comprises: two facing flat plates 5, 7; a flat-plate movement mechanism 9 which moves at least one flat plate 7 out of the two flat plates 5, 7 in the facing direction to allow the fragment to be sandwiched between the two flat plates 5, 7; and a measurement/judgement means 16. The measurement/judgement means 16 detects the presence or absence, size, or accumulated amount of the fragment by measuring the gap between the two flat plates 5, 7.
