PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbapenem antibiotic substance having strong antibacterial power, wide antibacterial spectrum and excellent oral absorbability. SOLUTION: The antibacterial agent contains a compound of formula (I) or its pharmacologically permissible salt. In the formula, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each independently a hydrogen atom or a 1-6C alkyl; R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are each independently a hydrogen atom or a 1-6C alkyl or R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>together form a (substituted) heterocyclic group together with adjacent nitrogen atom; R<SP>5</SP>is a hydrogen atom or a metal ion such as potassium or sodium ion; and X is a leaving group such as Cl, Br, I and -OSO<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>3</SB>.
