PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polymer optical waveguide in a simple manner, with high productivity and small waveguide loss, with a core shape accurately maintained. SOLUTION: The method includes: (1) a step of preparing a mold that has (i) a setting resin layer which has a recess corresponding to the projection of an optical waveguide core as well as the entering part and the discharging part for core-forming setting resin comprising both ends of the recess, and which has a thickness of 10μm to 30 mm being a hardened layer of mold-forming setting resin, and (ii) a reinforcing member which reinforces the setting resin layer and which has an infusing port and an exhaust port for the purpose of force-feeding the core-forming setting resin; (2) a step of closely sticking a clad base material to the mold; (3) a step of force-feeding the core-forming setting resin into the mold, decompressing/exhausting the mold, and advancing the core-forming setting resin into the mold recess; (4) a step of hardening the core-forming setting resin and releasing the mold from the clad base material; and (5) a step of forming a clad layer on the clad base material where the core is formed.
