METAL-CHELATE AZO DYE AND OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM

Disclosed is a metal-chelate azo dye suitable for a recording layer for an optical recording medium having a high-speed recording capability or an optical recording medium having multiple recording layers. Also disclosed is an optical recording medium. Specifically disclosed is a metal-chelate azo dye comprising an azo dye compound represented by the general formula (1) and Zn²⁺. (1) wherein R₁ represents a linear or branched alkyl group which may be substituted or a cycloalkyl group which may be substituted; Y represents a linear or branched alkyl group substituted by at least two fluorine atoms; R₂, R₃, R₄, R₅ and R₆ independently represent a hydrogen atom or a linear or branched alkyl group which may be substituted, provided that R₃ and R₄, R₄ and R₅, or R₅ and R₆ may together form a ring; and a proton in the compound of the formula (1) is desorbed so as to form, together with a Zn²⁺, a chelate dye.
