A vehicle control method having an HV travel mode in which operation of an internal combustion engine is permitted and an EV travel mode in which the vehicle travels using a motor with the engine stopped. The method has a step (S1) of setting a destination, a step (S4) of setting a route from a start point up to the destination, a step (S5) for dividing a travel route into sections and matching either of the travel modes to each of the sections, a step (S7) of finalizing, based on an instruction from the operator, the divisions of the travel route and the travel mode matched to each section, and a step of allowing the vehicle to travel each section using the travel mode matched to the section.
