PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for bending a sheet metal product, by which apparatus and method, the structure of a die for bending the edge portion of a sheet metal product in cooperation with a punch can be simplified and a manufacturing cost can be reduced, and further to provide a bent product. SOLUTION: The edge portion 17 of the sheet metal product is bent toward the inside of the sheet metal product by means of the recessed portion 28 of a die 21 arranged inside the sheet metal product and a punch to be intruded into the recessed portion 28. The die 21 is configured so as to include a die body 24 having the recessed portion 28 formed thereon and a separated die member 25 which forms part of a projecting portion 29 projecting toward the outside of the sheet metal product by the recessed portion 28. When the side panel outer 1 of a vehicle formed as the bent product by bending the edge portion 17 is taken away from the die 21, the separated die member 25 is taken away from the die body 24 together with the side panel outer 1.
