PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling a power assisted bicycle capable of operating a pedal stably and more naturally. SOLUTION: In this method for controlling a power assisted bicycle comprising a torque sensor detecting a tread force fh acting on a pedal and an auxiliary driving device generating an auxiliary driving force fa added to the tread force fh from a motor, when a peak value of the tread force fh detected while the auxiliary driving force fa is not applied exceeds a threshold A, the auxiliary driving force fa is applied from the next pedaling. When a peak value of a total driving force F of the tread force fh and the auxiliary driving force fa becomes lower than the threshold A, the auxiliary force fa is made to 0 from the next pedaling.
