A method and an apparatus for providing 3D virtual contents by using topological spatial information are provided to provide live local information at lower cost as compared with using large capacity high definition location images and aerial photographs. An apparatus for providing 3D virtual contents comprises a data input unit(210), a data communication unit(220), a database(240), a layer extractor(230), a mapping unit(250) and a web document editor(260). The communication unit connects to a public sever according to a specific protocol, receives information as to topography and commercial rights from the public sever, and outputs the information to the database. The database receives geographical information of each area from public servers, stores the received geographical information and stores geographical information surveyed by a manager. The layer extractor classifies plural kinds of stored geographical information and extracts layers. The mapping unit generates 3D virtual content which is expressed with 3D graphics with respect to the area by using the layers. The web document editor edits the 3D virtual content into web documents for allowing a user to browse the 3D virtual content. |
