The bending machine has a control device which is operated via an input unit with a touch-pad used for entry of a required bending profile (50), a processing unit selecting one or more matching bending profiles (61-63) from bending profiles held in a databank, which are indicated on a display, the input unit used to select one of the displayed profiles or the entered bending profile for controlling the bending machine. An Independent claim for a control method for a bending machine is also included.
