<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a fuel quantity injected from a fuel adding valve, in an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel adding valve 46 injecting fuel into a downstream side exhaust passage of an exhaust valve 56, is arranged in at least one cylinder of a diesel engine 10. This diesel engine 10 has a variable valve train capable of setting a valve opening characteristic of an adding valve side exhaust valve 56a making an exhaust gas flow easily striking on a nozzle part of the fuel adding valve 46, and a valve opening characteristic of a non-adding valve side exhaust valve 56b making an exhaust gas flow hardly striking on the nozzle part of the fuel adding valve 46, to a different characteristic, among a plurality of exhaust valves 56 equipped in an adding valve installing cylinder provided with the fuel adding valve 46. Strength of the exhaust gas flow striking on the nozzle part of the fuel adding valve 46, is controlled by controlling its variable valve train, in response to an operation state of the diesel engine 10 and/or a fuel injection state from the fuel adding valve 46. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
