PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform preferable color reproduction of an image by performing excellent gray reproduction as to arbitrary paper white and black. SOLUTION: When an achromatic color signal of an input signal is reproduced in color conversion processing for converting an input color signal into an output color signal, target gray reproduction coordinates are determined, a lightness range to be reproduced into a gray target is determined for lightness variation from paper white to black points, and reproduction of gray lines is controlled for other ranges so that chromaticity variation between white points or black points and the gray target may become smooth.
