PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which resolve heat decay problem without degrading electromagnetic conversion characteristic (especially for OW characteristic) for attaining high recording density by improving SNR and narrowing PW50 even when a magnetic core having high saturation flux density is employed in a writing head. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium comprises a magnetic recording film 3, a soft magnetic film 4, and a protection film 5 on a non magnetic base 1. While the coercive force of the magnetic recording film 3 is equal to or more than 2,500 Oe, the film thickness of the soft magnetic film 4 is within 0.2 to 0.5 nm, and the saturation flux density of the soft magnetic film 4 is equal to or more than 1.5 T.
