PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve dynamic range compression while reducing operation load and utilizing color reproduction capability of an output device in converting scene reference image data into image data for the output device.

SOLUTION: An image analyzing section 103 analyzes color distribution of scRGB image data to set range compression conditions for tone mapping processing. A range compressing section 101 compresses a dynamic range on the basis of the range compression conditions set in the image analyzing section 103, and converts the scRGB image data into data within a range expressible in an expanded RGB color space. A color correction section 102 converts the color signals compressed into the dynamic range of the expanded RGB color space into CMYK signals as printer output signals.
