PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a glass composition suitable for forming a supporting frame for a flat display, and to make use of the glass composition for improving the reliability of the flat display and for lowering the cost of the same. SOLUTION: The glass composition for forming a supporting frame contains following as a glass composition, by mol% in terms of oxides, 5-30% SiO<SB>2</SB>, 20-50% B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 20-60% ZnO, 0-10% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 1-20% R<SB>2</SB>O (wherein R<SB>2</SB>O exhibits Li<SB>2</SB>O, Na<SB>2</SB>O, K<SB>2</SB>O, Cs<SB>2</SB>O), 0-15% Li<SB>2</SB>O, 0-15% Na<SB>2</SB>O, 0-10% K<SB>2</SB>O, 0-25% R'O (wherein R'O exhibits MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO), 0-15% MgO, 0-15% CaO, 0-15% BaO, 0-15% SrO, and 0-10% ZrO<SB>2</SB>+TiO<SB>2</SB>, and is substantially free from PbO.
