<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin for aqueous ink for forming the aqueous ink excellent in optical density, uniformity of gloss and clearness of an image when it is applied to general paper and glossy paper and also excellent in an anti-rubbing property, a delivery property and a storage stability, a resin composition for aqueous ink, and a polymer latex suitable for the resin for the aqueous ink. <P>SOLUTION: The latex of the polymer is prepared by polymerizing a monomer (B) containing anα,β-ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid compound monomer in the presence of a sulfonic acid group-containing alkali-soluble polymer prepared by polymerizing a monomer (A) containing a sulfonic acid group-containing monomer in the presence of an alcoholic hydroxy group-containing water-soluble polymer compound. The resin for aqueous ink comprises this polymer.
