PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact personal identification device with high identification accuracy. SOLUTION: When registering a person, the personal identification device obtains distances to multiple points on the face from a multi-line optical sensor 11 and recognizes the face using distance distribution data, which is three-dimensional feature quantity. Then, it stores the distance distribution data as reference distance distribution data D3a. When authenticating the person, the device compares new comparison distance distribution data D3b obtained from imaging of the multi-line optical sensor 11 with the reference distance distribution data D3a and the person can be identified based on the matching result.
