PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent corrosion of an apparatus used for melting waste or a gas discharge duct connected thereto when melting waste. SOLUTION: The waste is washed with water to remove an alkaline component. When waste contains heavy metals or an acidic gas source, the waste is further subjected to acid cleaning to remove heavy metals, washing with water to remove the acidic gas source, then to melting.
