PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an accelerator pedal device capable of extending a pedal depression force range for fixedly maintaining a rotational position of an accelerator pedal arm in accordance with the quantity of pedal depression, reducing space by a compact installation and dispensing an adjusting work in some cases, and a damper suitable for this. SOLUTION: This accelerator pedal device 1 for an automobile is provided with a support frame 5, a shaft member 7 rotatably supported by the support frame 5, the accelerator pedal arm 8 mounted on the shaft member 7, a coil spring 9 for rotating and energizing the accelerator pedal 8 in an initial rotation position, a damper 10 for imparting a friction resistance force which gradually increases according to the rotation from the initial rotation position of the accelerator pedal arm 8 thereto, and a detecting means 12 for detecting a rotation angle of the accelerator pedal 8. The damper 10 has a housing 21 which is mounted on the support frame 5 and the detecting means 12 is embedded in the housing 21.
