PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ferrule assembly suitable for assembling a receptacle type optical module suited to low cost and miniaturization. SOLUTION: The ferrule assembly includes a through-hole, a first end part, a second end part, a ferrule having an intermediate part between the first and second end parts, and an optical fiber fixedly inserted into the through-hole. The ferrule is provided, in the intermediate part, with such a notched flat part as the optical fiber inserted into the through-hole is half exposed, while the optical fiber is held in the entire periphery by the ferrule at least at the first and second end faces of the ferrule.
