A method and an apparatus for providing information on availability of public transportation and using the information are provided to offer information on time when public transportation is available and availability to people who use the public transportation, thereby the people using the public transportation conveniently. A method of encoding traffic information generates information on a bus route, generates information on the current position and availability of each of buses corresponding to the bus route, composes status information including the generated information and embeds the status information in a message to be transmitted. A method of decoding the traffic information extracts the status information from a received signal and extracts information on bus stops and information on the current position and availability of each bus corresponding to the bus route. |
