PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bookbinding device, which produces a high grade booklet, wherein a coating device for forming a uniform adhesive coating layer is equipped despite a small-sized one, and to provide an image forming system. SOLUTION: By reciprocating the coating device along the back of a booklet, the coating of the adhesive is executed during its reciprocating motions under the condition that a first controlling member, which controls the thickness of an adhesive layer at the forward motion of the coating device, and a second controlling member, which controls the thickness of the adhesive layer at its backward motion, are provided.
