A closure device for an opening defined in one side of a waste compactor bin 13 comprises a cover 10 of a size capable of completely covering the opening and means (20, fig 1) for the attachment of the cover 10 to the bin 13 such that the peripheral edges of the cover 10 are retained in a close fitting relationship to the side of the bin 13 defining the opening. The cover 10 comprises a receptacle such that when it is fitted to the bin 13 it defines an enclosed volume exterior to the bin 13 into which material that escapes from the bin 13 through the opening is caught and retained. Preferably, the receptacle is primarily formed by that portion of the cover 10 adapted to cover the lower portion 12 of the opening. Also, the means (20, fig 1) for attachment of the cover 10 to the bin 13 enables the lower portion 12 of the cover to be detached from the bin 10 prior to an upper portion 11 of the cover. The cover 10 is preferably made from tarpaulin or from a rigid sheet material. |
