<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of improving the efficiency of using light and the uniformity of illumination distribution by the use of a light intensity uniformizing element having a cross-section shape which allows a shape of the real illumination region on a reflection type light valve to coincide substantially with the shape of an ideal illumination region. <P>SOLUTION: The projection type display device comprises: a light source 4; the light intensity uniformizing element 6; a DMD element 2; a relay optical system 7; and a projection optical system 3, wherein, based on the ideal illumination region including an image formation region on the DMD element 2, an illumination region on the DMD element 2 when it is supposed that a light intensity uniformizing element for reference of which the cross-section shape in the direction vertical to a center luminous flux is orthogonal is used, and the cross-section shape of the light intensity uniformizing element for reference, the cross-section shape of the light intensity uniformizing element 6 is determined. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
