PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antimicrobial agent with slight or no tendency of discoloration with time, suitable to compounding in resin molded products, coating products, etc., through aiming to solve such problems as the discoloration of silver-based zeolite antimicrobial agents and resin discoloration attributable to silver ion. SOLUTION: The antimicrobial agent comprises a benzotriazole silver compound of the general formula(1)(wherein, R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are same or different and each an alkyl, aryl, halogen atom, hydroxy, amino or carboxy; and p1 and q1 are each an integer of 0-2). It is preferable that this agent be in the form of powdery granules 0.05-50μm in size and the moisture content of this agent be adjusted to not more than 5 wt.%.
