PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of controlling ignition timing to provide maximum net torque. SOLUTION: This control device for the internal combustion engine is provided with a means calculating ignition timing maximizing indicated torque, a means calculating friction torque FMEP based on an engine operation condition, and a means correcting ignition timing maximizing indicated torque calculated by the means to maximize net torque provided by subtracting friction torque from the indicated torque.
