The auto-chromator (1) has a spectroscope with an opening. An optical beam coming out through an inlet (11) is spectrally fragmented into a spectrum plane by a lens (13). The spectrally fragmented beam is exactly reflected back from the spectrum plane into an optical path by a reflector (16) i.e. digital light processor. The beam unsuppressed by a spectral screen e.g. LCD, is emitted through an opening, where the inlet is identical to an outlet. The beam of a radiation source is superimposed by a variable radiation portion. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for producing an optical beam (2) a method for producing a pre-defined spectrum by a radiation source and a spectroscope (3) a method for determining spectral sensitivity of a receiver.
