A shoe for a hoofed animal comprises an arcuate body (2) moulded from plastics material, specifically a lower body part moulded from polyurethane and having a ground-contacting surface and an upper body part moulded from polycaprolactone and having a foot-contacting surface. The upper body part has a peripheral flange which, when the shoe is fitted, extends around the wall of the hoof. The polycaprolactone of the upper body part readily softens when heated up to about 60{ C, so as to allow the flange to be deformed to clasp the hoof wall as part of the process of securing to the hoof. The polyurethane of the lower body part, thereagainst, does not soften at that temperature and imparts wear-resistance and resilience to the ground-contacting surface. The two body parts are mechanically interlocked at their interface. |
