A keep assembly 1 for receiving and retaining a bolt 11 allows a door to be forcibly opened without damaging the bolt, the keep, the door or surround. The keep assembly 1 comprises first 3 and second 5 body members, the first body member 3 being securable to a door surround, and the second body member 5 being securable to the first body member 3 and comprises a bolt receiving portion 9. The second body member 5 is releasably secured to the first body member 3 by the securing means 6 and is separable therefrom when a predetermined force is applied by the bolt. As shown the securing means 6 is magnetic but a sacrificial member (such as a pin) which is intended to fail under force could be used. Alternatively the securing could be effected by adhesive or by a biased detent. The members 5 and 6 are shown as hinged and are biased to the fig. 3a position but the member 5 could be mounted so as to completely detach from member 6. |
