MEDICAMENT, USE OF A PHOTO-REACTIVE ACTIVE INGREDIENT FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A MEDICAMENT, AND TREATMENT INSTRUMENT FOR THE TREATMENT OF SUPERFICIAL MICROBIAL, BACTERIAL AND VIRAL DISORDERS USING THIS MEDICAMENT

The present invention relates to a medicament and to the use of a photo-reactive and/or -catalysable active ingredient for the production of this medicament for the treatment of superficial fungal, bacterial and/or viral disorders. The invention further relates to a treatment instrument for the treatment of superficial microbial, bacterial and viral disorders using this medicament. Instead of the prior-art method of using long exposure times, high active-ingredient concentrations or high levels of radiation to achieve efficient elimination of microbes, the present invention proposes in particular treating superficial microbial, bacterial and/or viral disorders with a photo-reactive active ingredient which comprises a photo-catalyst. This method can bring about the photo-reactive activity of the active ingredient even using relatively low levels of irradiation with light, and the reaction time can therefore be short, as also therefore can the exposure time. This promotes treatment which has no aggressive action on the tissue and is nevertheless highly effective. This is a particularly efficient method of controlling superficial fungal, bacterial or viral infection of the skin, examples being herpes, athlete's foot, acne, psoriasis, mycosis of the nails or inflammation of the nail bed, and corresponding disorders in the oral cavity region, particularly microbial infection of gingival pockets and of tooth root canals. In order to permit ideal activation of the medicament in each case under various conditions of use without any need to maintain stock of a wide variety of treatment instruments, the invention proposes a treatment instrument of which an operating head, having an illumination device for the irradiation of the medicament, has an implement-change-over device by means of which it is possible to fasten, to the operating head, implements whose shape is matched to various surfaces to be treated. An advantage here is integration of the illumination device into the operating head so that the implement can be changed over without any need for concomitant changeover of the illumination device which remains on the operating head.
