PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently simplify a shape, even a complicated and large-scale shape, by efficiently selecting similar partial shapes among three-dimensional shape models. SOLUTION: This shape simplification device is provided with: a mesh inputting part 2 for generating surface meshes for a shape model and registering the surface meshes; a geometrical feature defining part 3 for classifying the surface meshes into partial surface meshes to be geometrical features on the basis of angles between meshes and calculating featured values; a feature shape inputting part 4 for inputting a set based on a geometrical feature as a feature shape; and a similar feature shape retrieving part 5 for retrieving a set of geometrical features in which adjacent relations of feature shapes and geometrical features are equal and the total sum of differences in featured values is not higher than a threshold as a similar feature shape, and eliminates the retrieved similar feature shapes and creates new meshes.
