The invention relates to a device and a corresponding method for operating a cabriolet hood (12), comprising a drive aggregate (18) for actuating the cabriolet hood (12) and means for limiting the force that is or can be introduced into the cabriolet hood (12) via the drive aggregate (18). According to the invention, the force that is or can be introduced into the cabriolet hood (12) by the drive aggregate (18) is dependent on a position of the cabriolet hood (12) so that the force introduced into the cabriolet hood (12) does not exceed a predetermined or predeterminable threshold value (30) and that, even in the event of a collision of the cabriolet hood (12) with an obstacle, the force exerted on the obstacle is minimal or at least below the legal or another predetermined limit.
