THERAPEUTIC SPINE ORIENTING APPARATUS AND METHOD

A therapeutic apparatus 10 for orienting a spine 40.1 of a patient 40 lying prostrate, includes a torso support 12 including a torso support base 18 and padded support structure mounted on a frame for supporting a torso; a hip support 14 including a hip support base 28 and a cushion for supporting hips; and a feet support 16 for supporting feet, of the patient. The apparatus includes a motorized pivoting mechanism operative between the base 18 and the padded support for the torso, selectively to pivot the torso as shown at 42 concavely to arch the spine. The hip support 14 is displaced away from the torso support 12 against an adjustable resilient bias as shown at 44 to relieve any compression of the spine. The apparatus promotes achieving lordosis, i.e. natural curvature of the spine.
