PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for an elevator door improved in space efficiency causing no uncomfortableness in appearance. SOLUTION: An end cover 14 to be operated to swing around a vertical shaft center when it is pushed by a foreign material is provided to cover a door closing direction side end surface 4b of a door case side wing wall 4 of a gateway 1, and a micro-switch 15 is provided to detect swing operation of the end cover 14. Swing operation of the end cover 14 is operated within a range of the maximum swing angle formed by the door closing direction side end surface 4b of the wing wall 4, which is inclined to form an obtuse angle against the surface side wall surface 7a of a low-speed slide door 7, with a gateway side wall surface of the end cover 14 positioned at a normal stop position at a right angle against the surface side wall surface 7a of the slide door 7 without approaching into an inside space of the wing wall 4.
