<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable or reducing nonuniform charging caused by a constant disorder state of the bristles of a charging brush. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a surface potential sensor 36 that detects the potential of the charging surface of a photoreceptor drum 24. One of a plurality of patterns of set voltage, composed of a DC voltage of a prescribed level or a DC voltage superimposed with an AC voltage of different frequency, is applied to the charging brush 23. A change in the surface potential of each set voltage is detected by the surface potential sensor 36. The set voltage in which the change width of the detected surface potential is smallest is determined as a charging voltage and is used for a recording process. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
