A bill processing apparatus and a bill processing method are provided to reduce a hand-worked input action of an operator even if there is a rejected bill, thereby reducing the time for processing a bill. A bill processing apparatus comprises a hopping part(101), a transport part(202), an identifying part(201), a memory(31), a recording medium slot part(111), a registered information reading part(112), and a controlling part(30). When the recording medium slot part receives a recording medium, the controlling part controls the hopping part, the transport part, the identifying part, the memory, the recording medium slot part, and the registered information reading part for reading the recorded registered information in the recording medium, relates the registered information and an identified result in the identifying part, and records the information and result in the memory.
