PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coater which enables coating easily even high and wide vertical surfaces in coating vertical surfaces and allows safe coating operation. SOLUTION: The coater has two or more pairs of X-shaped links consisting of two equal-length rods 1 and 1 with the middle points of the rods connected with through shafts 2, a pantograph-shaped extensible link 4 formed by connecting ends 3 and 3 of the X-shaped links, a movable carrier vehicle 5 arranged so as to make the extending and contracting direction of the extensible link 4 vertical, a guide rail 9 erected on the movable carrier vehicle 5 and engaged in the extensible link 4 to guide the extending and contracting direction, an extension drive 13 which controls the vertical length of the extensible link 4 by controlling the interval between lower ends of the X-shaped links constituting the extensible link 4 and a fixture 17 for the coater arranged at the upper end of the uppermost X-shaped link of the extensible link 4.
