PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device capable of changing the recording device to a low power consumption state even in the state in which a host PC and the recording device are connected and reducing consumed power, and a control method of the recording device. SOLUTION: The recording device having a card slot for attaching a memory card has a configuration switchable between a first power saving mode capable of detecting inquiries from an upper-level device and a second power saving mode capable of responding to the inquiries. Information with respect to the inquiries is stored in a storage means. When an inquiry is detected, the first power saving mode is switched to the second power saving mode, and the upper-level device is notified of the information of the storage means.
