A system and a method for providing a music file searching service in a mobile terminal are provided to easily search a desired music file using the melody or a part of the lyrics of a song even through the title of the song or the name of a singer who sings the song is not known. A system for providing a music file searching service includes a mobile terminal(100), an Internet site, a server(104) and a database(106). The mobile terminal records external audio signals and transmits recorded files to the server through wireless communication. The Internet site provides an application to search a music file through speech/tone recognition and transmits the searched music file to the mobile terminal. The server stores information on the music file. The database stores music files.
